In minimally invasive spine surgery, a smaller incision is made, sometimes only a half-inch in length. The surgeon inserts special surgical instruments through these tiny incisions to access the damaged disc in the spine.
Instead of large open incisions, advanced surgical instrumentation enables Northwest Hills surgeons to operate through half-inch incisions that greatly reduce disruption to muscles and ligaments. This enables most patients to go home the same day.
Hip replacement surgery involves removing the diseased bone and cartilage and fits the prosthesis into the joint. The prosthesis is inserted and the incision is sutured.
Hip arthroscopy is not only less invasive than a traditional large incision surgery, but also permits more detailed visualization of the hip structures by virtue of the cannula and camera capabilities within the new instrumentation.
Shoulder replacement surgery creates new joint surfaces by replacing the ends of bones in a damaged joint. The top end of your upper arm bone (humerus) is rounded at the top and shaped like a ball. Muscles and ligaments hold this ball against a cup-shaped part of the shoulder bone.
Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive technique that uses a camera, tiny incision holes, and specialized tools that allow the orthopedic surgeon to fix rotator cuff tears usually through 3-4 very small incisions, usually less than ½ inch long.
Knee replacement involves the creating a small incision to open up the knee and removing arthritic cartilage. The prosthesis is then "glued" to the bones with special, surgical cement. The knee is sutured back together, and drainage tubes are used to prevent clogging.
Using an arthroscope, the knee surgeon can repair the knee through two tiny half-inch incisions instead of a longer incision which requires a longer recovery and causes a bigger scar.
Through reconstruction and treatment of joint conditions, our team of orthopedic surgeons are committed to improving the quality of life of our patients by returning them to an active lifestyle.

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) colon and rectum cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. The number of deaths was 14.8 per 100,000 men and women per year, with risk increasing with age over 50 and any family history of cancer. Another important fact is that colon cancer can progress for years without any symptoms.
The good news is that it can be treated successfully when detected early through colonoscopy. Unfortunately, many people put off the necessary screening. Austin residents, and those in Central Texas, can now easily have this screening without having to see a physician beforehand. Open Access Colonoscopy is a service we provide that allows healthy, age-appropriate patients to easily schedule a colonoscopy, usually without a pre-procedure visit.
Colonoscopy is advised for all average-risk patients, age 50 and older, as a method of colon cancer screening. Patients with significant illnesses (poorly controlled diabetes, significant cardiac disease, severe breathing problems, kidney problems) are advised to schedule a consultation prior to the procedure. Many health plans cover the cost for those over age 50 as a necessary preventive screening.
By completing this Open Access request form, your information will be sent to Northwest Hills Surgical Hospital. This form should never be used for medical emergencies or time-sensitive issues.
