Foot and Ankle
The foot and ankle consist of 33 joints, 26 bones and more than 100 ligaments, tendons and muscles. Ankles act as a foundation and a shock absorber, while the foot provides flexibility and resiliency. The foot is a highly mechanical apparatus, and it carries the entire weight of the body when we stand, walk and run. The ankle joint operates by swinging the foot up and down; it also swivels the foot from side-to-side.
If you suffer from a foot or ankle condition, you know how painful it can be to stand or walk. Even common problems such as a bunion, ingrown nail, callus or improper shoe fit can be debilitating.
